The Nikon D80 DSLR Camera Review
October 16th, 2009The Nikon D80 digital SLR camera is perhaps not exactly what fans would expect from Nikon. It is intended to replace the D70, however, is surprisingly similar. This brings to mind an interesting topic. All companies, electronic or otherwise, are constantly under pressure from shareholders to issue new products. Also to produce the widget popular "super" holders of its shares to the hope that the production of "Super Duper" widget "in the next fiscal year. In this sense, the Nikon D80 could say that the D70 is a great camera, that some improvements.
The D80 features a new "kit" lens, the 18-135mm f/4-5.6G ED AF-S DX, and a new vertical grip, the MB-D80. The goal of the kit is, by definition, rather than low-end, made to keep the price of a camera handy beginners photography. The zoom has a shutter speed much slower than the D70 – 1 / 4000 than the previous 1 / 8000.
I was happy to discover that there was also some improvement in reception. D80's viewfinder is bigger and brighter than the D70, and the sensor has a resolution of about 30% more.
The sensor on the D80 is a CCD ICX493AQA produced by Sony. The same sensor is used in Sony Alpha 100 and Pentax K10D. 10.2 megapixels translates into 3872 x 2592 pixels, enough to produce in-camera prints up to 11×16 "no scaling. The base ISO of the CCD is 100, with the third stop in increments of ISO 1600. You can also increase ISO as a stop for an effective ISO 3200.
The D80 sensor noise arises mainly from three design elements: the frame size SPA, the smallest total size of the photosites, than the 6 MP sensor, and the absence of an electronic sensor NR. That said, Nikon has incorporated a number of things on the D80 to deal with the potential for increased noise in the previous consumer cameras. For example, once again, the data are stored in the space of 12 bits to the right until the end of a JPEG compression of 8-bit. Secondly, the scanning engine has an internal component of noise reduction in it. Overall, low light images are easily comparable quality to the D70. This is perhaps due mainly to the larger CCD sensor.
The camera body is technically a bit 'in all dimensions smaller than the D70s, but the current owners to find the model very similar. Most buttons are the same and in the same places, and there are dedicated buttons for many commonly used functions. For example, a group of buttons near the shutter button, which allows you to change the measuring mode, exposure compensation, drive mode and AF mode. Meanwhile, the buttons on the left by 2.5 inch, 230,000 pixel LCD screen let you change white balance, ISO, and image size and quality settings without diving into menus. On the basis not only of their own dedicated control is AF area selection, although the programmable key function of the camera can be programmed so that if you wish. The default for this button is to display the current setting ISO.
Three dials adorn the camera body. The mode dial lets you choose between program, aperture or shutter priority, full manual, fully automatic, or any of six preset exposure scene modes. The other two dials, located on the front and rear grip, let you change the aperture and shutter speed. Together, they are full manual shooting quick and easy, with a menu system easy to use.
For the most part, Nikon has negotiated trade-off quality and provide a digital SLR camera for under $ 1000. It 'a little' more expensive than comparable models from Canon or Petax, but with a reputation for Nikon, which can easily apply a little 'more, and nobody blinks an eye.
