The exposure of a digital photograph is influenced by the opening of the camera, shutter speed, ISO classification sensor, and of course the amount of light in the scene being photographed. A wrong statement in turn, an image of wildlife otherwise well integrated into something mediocre and at worst to ruin a shot.
All digital cameras have an automatic adjustment of exposure, so it may seem that the show is something that is best left to the camera. It is true that in some situations, the automatic exposure camera produces well-exposed photographs, but there are many situations that do not.
Automatic exposure systems tend to work well only when a scene and the theme of animals are mainly in the midtones. This is due to the fact that the average exposure for cars with the exposure of the scene as a whole, giving an equivalent total exposure if the scene was a midtone gray uniform. Since virtually no actual scenes of the world is only half of the tone of gray, this can mean that your pictures of wildlife can end badly if exposed are based solely on the default settings of exposure of the camera.
Scenes that consist mainly of pale colors will come out underexposed (as an animal pale in snow) and the scenes with very dark colors will come out overexposed. Also, animals can be clear on a dark background overexposed and animals pale against a dark background may be underexposed. Animals with signs of different colors such as puffins and magpies usually have their white areas overexposed. Therefore, it is often necessary in nature photography to adjust the default settings of the camera to expose properly configuring shots.Exposure
Power users and digital SLR cameras main light has three metering modes available:
* Multi-segment or Matrix – this is the default camera mode auto exposure. This divides the image into a series of segments and remove the exposure of the scene as a whole. This mode works well for filling table close-up of animals and other photos of scenes composed predominantly of mid-tones, but as explained in the previous section, so there are often exposed to inappropriate images when the scene was significant areas of extreme light or dark.
* Spot Metering – In camera mode bases its exposure value to a single image point (usually the center of the image, but that point can be adjusted in most cameras). This is a useful way to photograph wildlife and can often help to achieve the correct exposure for the animal subject. However, the measurement should be used with caution, since the readings of the light can vary greatly depending on where you point the camera – it is better to choose a subject point that has a medium tone.
* Center weighted – as multi-segment metering, which takes an average of the scene as a whole, but this way gives more weight to the center of the mediation process, which means that the camera tries to ensure the center of 'image is correctly exposed. This is another good setting for the photography of wildlife that, unlike in situ measurement is less sensitive to variations in brightness of the scene. As the center-weighted metering is used as a form of media that can still produce the correct exposure, however, if the center of the image contains the extremes of light and darkness.
If you find the measuring chamber does not produce good results for a scene (eg when the animal is a very light brown), you can use the EV compensation manual (exposure compensation value), which sets the camera to adjust the 'exposure is used. One might be tempted to try and check the exposure after taking a picture to display on the camera screen. Another feature of most cameras provide exposure control, an image reproduction mode in which most of the flash overexposed parts of the image on the screen. Massively overexposed, a region of an image is so overexposed that went into the pure white – this is known as cut or burned.
Overexposure to the point where cut significant portions of the image is something that you must avoid at all costs in digital photography. Once a part of an image is cut all the information in the image is lost – can not be done in tools like Photoshop to get it back. It should be noted here that it's okay to cut specular highlights, for example, caused by the sun reflecting off the eyes of animals, but cutting large areas of detail must always be avoided.
The problems associated with the cut means that it is generally safer for a while 'underexpose a digital image of what is to expose, to take in more detail in the highlights. Underexposed images can be corrected easily with tools such as Photoshop, but if the image is corrected significantly underexposed image will have an undesirable grainy texture called "noise. Mild exposure can be corrected in Photoshop, but only when there has been cut.
